Working with Young Curators at Ullapool Museum

Museum as Muck worked with Ullapool Museum and its young curators to deliver a series of three interactive workshops to support the young people in their development of an exhibition. The work centred local stories, lived experience and working-class heritage within the museum’s collection.

Through creative activities, discussion and reflection, participants explored class, work, pride and belonging, and how these themes could be represented through objects, interpretation and exhibition design. Museum as Muck designed and delivered the sessions to support young people to shape the exhibition on their own terms, as researchers, curators and decision-makers.

The workshops fed directly into the development of the exhibition and built confidence, critical thinking and skills around storytelling and evaluation. This project demonstrates Museum as Muck’s audience-focused approach and our ability to work with museums to co-produce inclusive, class-aware programming with communities. We can deliver similar workshops with other museums looking to work meaningfully with young people and local audiences.
